We were up and ready to go by 9:00 a.m. The plan was to hike for the day. Our first stop was Potawatomi State Park on the shore of Sturgeon Bay. The Ice Age Trail goes through the park. We did a two-mile hike on the Ice Age trail at the top of the park, then proceeded to do the Hemlock Trial on the lower area along the shore. While they were not difficult heights, you needed to look down more to avoid tripping.
We walked the pristine beach with the finest sand we’ve ever seen. We hiked the partially coastal Barachiopod trail, which has educational markers. There’s an app for the tour, but our limited service prevented us from downloading the information. I’ll download it if we return.
We were both hungry, and I was sad to learn that Shelley skipped breakfast. I had a protein shake with Enso Super Greens, Vitamin C, Chia seeds, Ashwagandha, L-glutamine, and turmeric. She had a Blueberry Cliff Bar. We planned to go to Bailey Harbor and the Harbor Fish Market & Grill, but they only serve food at 4:30 p.m., and it was already 3:10 p.m. We went to Fish Creek for lunch, but most places were closed. We went to Egg Harbor and stopped at Wood Orchard Market to buy more groceries.
Upon arrival at Egg Harbor, we discovered many restaurants closed, possibly due to the Packers game or the off-season. We found a place called the Log Den and ordered the lunch menu, which was exactly what we wanted. However, upon arrival, it was the dinner menu that was much more expensive. This reminded us of the New York restaurants with no prices, where asking for the price implied that one couldn’t afford to eat there. Despite our hunger, we opted for the salad and soup bar, which cost $18.99.
The waiter was abrupt and rude, making the experience unpleasant. The impression I left was not of the outstanding soup or the building architecture, but rather the poor service.
We arrived exhausted and spent the night resting at the resort. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Washington Island.
